RAWALPINDI, Dec 16: The judge of an anti-terrorist court, Safdar Hussain Malik, on Monday awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a member of a banned outfit convicted of possessing illegal weapons.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the convict, Fazal Hameed. The accused will have to undergo another six-month RI if he failed to pay the fine.

The court awarded an additional three-month RI to the convict for having links with a banned outfit. A Rs1,000 fine was also imposed on the accused.

The Westridge police arrested the accused for possessing a Kalashnikov and distributing literature, which could fuel up sectarian feelings among the masses.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Syed Pervez Ali Shah, awarded four-year RI to a drug-peddler and also imposed a Rs20,000 fine on the convict.

In case the convict, Fida Mohammad, failed to pay the fine, he would undergo another six-month jail term.

The convict was arrested by the Ganjmandi police during a search operation for smuggling five kilograms of charas.

The same court rejected the bail before arrest application of three persons, who allegedly trespassed on a house and injured the inmates.

The additional district and sessions judge awarded six-month imprisonment to a person, Umar Bakhsh, who had assured a judge of producing a murderer in the court but failed.

The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu, rejected the bail application of a lady, who allegedly married another per-son with getting divorce from her husband.

The additional district and sessions judge, Shehzad Pervez Abbasi, rejected the bail application of an alleged rapist.

The additional district and sessions judge, Malik Akram Awan, rejected the bail application of a person, Younas, who was arrested by the Sadar Beruni police for allegedly cutting and stealing trees from a jungle.

The same court accepted the bail application of a man, Mehmood Khan. In the application, the person said police implicated him in a drug case by placing 120g of charas in his pocket.

The court also granted bail to an person, Malik Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, who was arrested by the Civil Lines police for allegedly submitting fake educational documents in the court while submitting nomination papers for contesting provincial assembly elections.
