KARACHI, Dec 16: The Japan Cultural Centre of the consulate-general of Japan, Karachi, in collaboration with the Karafilm Festival, organized a lecture by an acclaimed Japanese film critic, Akira Tochigi.
Mr Tochigi was sent to Pakistan by the Japan Foundation (a subsidiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Japan), says a statement here on Monday.
The programme was held with a view to commemorating the golden jubilee anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Japan. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1952.
Before Mr Tochigi’s lecture, a latest entry in the feature film category of the 2nd Karafilm Festival from Japan” A Drowning Man” was shown. This event was attended by a large number of film buffs in Karachi.
Mr Tochigi’s lecture briefly traced the history of Japanese cinema from beginning to the present day and focused on the Japanese film industry and its culture after the 1970s.
His lecture covered mainly the postmodern impacts upon Japanese cinema. Mr Tochigi expressed his pleasant surprise over the interest of people to learn about Japanese films and their eagerness about Pakistani films to be shown in Japan.—APP
