KARACHI, Dec 15: Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif, who has retired from Test cricket, will captain Allied Bank Limited (ABL) in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship.
Rashid, who is currently in South Africa with the one-day squad, is expected to return home later this week after the limited-overs series concludes Wednesday with the last match in Cape Town, a day-night fixture.
Former Test off-spinner Arshad Khan has been nominated as Rashid’s deputy in the 16-man squad announced by ABL manager Shoaib Habib on Sunday.
ABL have included two newcomers in their squad. All-rounder Bilal Asad and medium-pacer Tanvir Ahmed played for Pak PWD in the Patron’s Trophy last season as well as representing Islamabad and Karachi Whites respectively in the Quaid Trophy.
ABL are red-hot favourites to top Group-II where their rivals are Pak PWD, Karachi Whites, Bahawalpur, Multan and first-class debutants Dadu.
The formidable bankers open their season against Multan at Multan Cricket Stadium from Saturday.

Former Pakistan under-19 skipper Maisam Hasnain and Khalid Latif will lead Karachi Whites and Karachi Blues respectively.
According to Sirajul Islam Bukhari, the honorary secretary of Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA), the elevation of Maisam and Khalid on Sunday is part of KCCA’s drive to groom them to lead future teams at national level.
KCCA selection committee, meanwhile, has directed the following members of the two teams to report for nets at Pakistan Customs Academy, Federal ‘B’ Area, at 2.00pm Monday:

Defending champions Karachi Whites, who play all their Group-II matches in the city, start their campaign against Bahawalpur at National Stadium from Saturday.
Karachi Blues are placed in Group-IV along with PIA, KRL, ADBP, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. Their first game is against last season’s runners-up Peshawar at Arbab Niaz Stadium.
