KARACHI: MMA slams govt

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 15: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s deputy parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly, Nasrullah Khan Shajee, has condemned the government and police’s highhandedness with elected members, siege of assembly building, search of MPAs’ vehicles and the arrest of Younus Khan in the assembly premises.

Terming it an insult to peoples’ mandate and the privilege of the members, he demanded that punitive action should be taken against those involved in the shameful incident.

He said the government had been making all-out efforts to increase its votes and followed the same tactics which were adopted during election for the deputy-speaker.

HORSE-TRADING: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Sindh, on Sunday alleged that an unprecedented horse-trading was going on in Sindh Assembly, which will be detrimental to the cause of democracy and democratic institutions, adds PPI.

A meeting of the alliance, with provincial MMA chief Asadullah Bhutto in the chair and attended by Allama Hasan Turabi, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid and others, expressed concern over government’s move to change the loyalties of the Sindh Assembly members by harassing their family members.

The meeting criticized the government for allegedly forcing an MMA member of the Sindh Assembly, Sakina Bano, to support the government-backed candidate for the slot of chief minister, by threatening her relatives.

It also called for the restoration of the floor-crossing clause of the Constitution.
