District bar elections two weeks away

GUJRANWALA, Dec 14: With the district bar’s annual election two weeks away, the aspirants started electioneering here on Saturday.

Sources said tough contest was expected among aspirants for each of the top slots of the district bar. Former district bar president Navid Anwer Navid, who is also a member of the Punjab Bar Council, and former secretary Ilyas Rehan are in the run for the office of the president and have started contacting lawyers for support.

Mr Naveed has been elected president and secretary-general unopposed many times in the past. He is thought to be the stronger candidate.

Mohammad Saeed Bhutta and Manzoor Qadir Bhindar are in field for the office of secretary-general. Mohammad Ashiq Asi and Mohammad Saleem Khokhar are aspiring for the slot of senior vice-president and Chaudhry Burhanuddin and Mabazer Ahmad for that of vice-president. Ziaur Rehman and Mian Ahmad Mahmood want to be the joint secretary, Syed Ahsan Hashmir and Abdul Jabbar the finance secretary and Mian Amir Javed and Ferzand Ali Cheema the library secretary.
