TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 14: After the abolition of the divisional sugar cane cess boards, the district government has received a share of Rs32.6 million sugar cane cess of Toba Tek Singh district.

However, Rs50 million funds of sugar mills in the district are still with the defunct divisional sugar cane cess board.

This was disclosed here on Saturday by representatives of sugar mills in a meeting of the district sugar cane cess committee.

The district Nazim who was presiding over the meeting directed the Works Department EDO to prepare a report in this regard so that the remaining share of cess could be demanded from the government.

The meeting decided that Rs31.3 million would be spent on the construction of new roads in the district from the cess while Rs36.4 million cess money of Chaudhry Sugar Mills would be spent on the construction of eight new and four old link roads in the mills’ zone area.

Similarly, Rs11.1 million cess fund of Kamalia Sugar Mills would be utilized for the construction of eight new roads in its zone area while Rs17.7 million money of Shakarganj Sugar Mills was being spent on the construction of five link roads in its zone area during the current financial year.

The meeting was also told that the bypass road between Toba-Jhang and Toba-Gojra roads, which was to be built from the provincial government fund of Rs22.5 million, had been finalized. The project’s final sanction had been sent tothe Punjab Planning and Development Department, it was informed.

The district Nazim apprised the meeting that Rs8 million each would be spent by the district government on the widening and construction of Nazir Shaheed and Toba-Shorkot bypass roads.

BURNT: A man burnt alive on Friday night as fire suddenly broke out in his house in Khursheedabad, Kamalia.

Deceased Muhammad Ramzan was alone in his house at the time of the incident. The cause of fire could not be known.

CONCERN: MNA Riaz Khan Fatyana has expressed his concern over the suspension of construction work of the Kamalia recreational park for the last three months.

In a press statement on Saturday, he said the park was to be completed with a fund of Rs4 million on eight acres of land, but work could not be completed due to the disinterest of the contractor.

He demanded of the officials concerned to take stock of the situation.
