KARACHI, Dec 14: Leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement protested on Saturday against the alleged violation of rules in connection with the election of deputy speaker of the Sindh Assembly and termed it an illegal act.
Talking to newsmen after staging a walkout in protest against the chair’s ruling, they said that the assembly’s rules were being violated and sovereignty of the house was being negated. Such illegal acts were fraught with grave consequences, they added.
They said that by extending the time for nomination the government had lost its moral standing as it was the prerogative of the assembly alone.
They said that by doing so the government had prevented a victorious man from assuming the office. He also spelt out the raison de’tre of their boycott and said that legal action would be taken after consulting legal experts.
The parliamentary party leader of the MMA also rejected the election of deputy speaker and said, according to him, Abdur Rahman Rajput was the deputy speaker who was elected unopposed. He also appreciated the PPP’s solidarity and of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in their hour of crisis.
Mr Rajput said that the election of deputy speaker was illegal because he had already been returned unopposed.
