PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Many parts of the city witnessed severe shortage of natural gas. The citizens have complained that with the advent of winter the gas shortage has hit the city.
Cantonment area, Khyber Supper Market, University Town, Shaheen Town, Jehangirabad, Hayatabad township and some other localities are facing shortage and low pressure of natural gas supply.
“We are fed up with the Wapda and SNGPL departments. In the winter the citizens cry for much-needed natural gas and in the summer the people face frequent loadshedding,” said Najeeb Khan, a resident of Cantonment area.
He lamented that the elderly people were facing much problem during the chilly weather.
“I don’t know why the natural gas company did not make prior arrangements before the winter season starts,” said Jamal Khan, a resident of Army Flats in cantonment locality.
On the one hand the government is announcing new gas discoveries, while on the other it lacked management to provide the facility to the consumers without interruption, he maintained.
Several other residents said they faced interruption of gas supply during the holy month of Ramazan and particularly at Sehr and Iftar times. Despite lodging complaints with the SNPGL officials the organization has failed to improve the situation, they said.
They appealed to the SNGPL officials to make arrangement for the proper supply of natural gas to the consumers.
Meanwhile, the city received first winter shower on Friday ending the dry weather and bringing pleasant changes in the atmosphere.
The light intermittent rain started in the morning and continued for more than three hours bringing down the mercury slightly.
The Met office said that the city received 1mm rain and predicted partly cloudy weather and light shower on Saturday.
