Indian industrial growth up

NEW DELHI, Dec 12: India’s industrial growth leapt to 6.2 per cent in October compared with 3.2 per cent in the same month last year, according to Central Statistical Organization figures released on Thursday.

Industrial growth between April and October stood at 5.5 per cent, up from 2.5 per cent in the same period last year, with the manufacturing sector showing a strong recovery.

Growth in manufacturing more than doubled to 5.6 per cent from 2.7 per cent from April to October.

Most sectors showed an improvement except, consumer durables and consumer goods.

The demand for consumer goods has remained weak due to a severe drought hitting agricultural produ-ction over large parts of northern India earlier this year.—AFP
