Khurram and Irfan excel

KARACHI, Dec 11: Khurram Manzoor and Irfanuddin excelled in the latest round of matches in the KCCA Inter-zonal Cricket Championship Tuesday.

At Pakistan Steel Township Ground, Zone-IV beat Zone-V by two wickets on the penultimate ball of the match.

Khurram Manzoor fell eight short of scoring a century as Zone-IV made 276 for eight in 49.5 overs in reply to Zone-V’s 275 for seven in 50 overs.

Khurram’s innings contained six boundaries as he shared a second wicket stand of 97 with Khalid Latif, who made 52 with the aid of six hits the ropes.

Earlier, Saqib Zia, a former Pakistan under-19 opener, top-scored 68 with eight fours and Ashraf Ali smashed a sparkling 76 with 12 hits to the fence and two sixes.

Saqib and Ashraf gave their team flying start sharing 140 runs for the first wicket.

Left-arm slow bowler Rashid Hanif was pick of Zone-IV bowling attack, finishing with five for 65 in 16 overs.

Meanwhile, another Pakistan under-19 off-break bowler Irfanuddin took seven wickets for 81 runs in 20 overs to bowl Zone-VI to 37 win over Zone-VII at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium.
