Ex-postmaster shot dead

GUJRAT, Dec 11: A former postmaster was shot dead by two masked men on Wednesday near the Servis Morr in the limits of Civil Lines police station.

Nazeer Ahmad was present at a shop opposite to the Government Swedish College when motorcyclists came there and opened fire on him, killing him instantly. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained as family sources claimed the slain did not have any enmity. Police sent the body to mortuary for autopsy.

No case has been registered till the filing of this report.

ARRESTED: The district police on Wednesday claim having arrested five dacoits in Behalpur.

Police told newsmen that the Jalalpur Jattan Saddar SHO Tariq Warraich along with other policemen had conducted a raid and arrested Abid alias Ganju, Waris, Manzoor, Mukhtiar alias Bhutto and Ansar Butt. Police said they had confessed to have killed a watchman during a dacoity bid in Bhagowal. They also admitted that they had committed 15 dacoities in Jalalpur Jattan and Tanda.

Police also recovered two 8mm rifles, a triple two rifle, one 30 bore pistol, one 32 bore revolver, two 12 bore guns, a carbine, a snatched motorcycle and ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from them.

CASE REGISTERED: Civil Lines police on Wednesday registered a case against a lady councillor and her three daughters for attacking and injuring a woman in Bolay.

Nusrat Bibi and her daughters had attacked Irshad Bibi with clubs and gave her sound beating.
