PESHAWAR, Dec 11: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has donated Rs2 million for the treatment of 10 deserving patients to the chairman of the Ittefaq Trading Company, an official handout issued here on Wednesday said.

The chairman of the Ittefaq Trading Company (ITC), Abdul Hamid Gurwara, who led a delegation, met the governor and received the cheque from the governor at the Governor’s House. He also appreciated the governor’s endeavours for the treatment of the poor people needing kidney transplantation.

While laying the foundation-stone of the free kidney centre in September last, the governor had announced a donation of Rs2 million in order to enable 10 patients already registered with the kidney centre for kidney transplantation free of cost.

Earlier, the governor had allotted a five-kanal plot at the Gulbahar Colony for the establishment of a permanent building for the kidney centre. The construction of the building for the centre would begin on Dec 15.

On the occasion, the governor appreciated the spirit of ITC members and asked philanthropists to come forward and help poor people by donating generously for the treatment of those who could not afford treatment.

The governor said that it was the duty of all rich people to extend financial assistance to the poor people. In this way, they would help the government, besides earning the prayers of the poor patients.

He also assured the delegation of his complete support and asked the members of the delegation to carry on their social welfare activities so that the poor and deserving patients could be helped.
