Fire renders 500 phones inoperative

Published December 12, 2002

DADU, Dec 11: Over 500 telephones, including that of the DCO, EDO (revenue), and the DPO, were rendered inoperative on Wednesday after cables of the digital telephone system of Dadu town were burnt near the DPO House.

The people, whose telephones were disconnected as a result of the fire, staged a demonstration outside the local press club to protest against the apathy of the PTCL officials.

They complained that their phones remained disconnected while telephone connections of some persons had been restored by using alternate cables.

They urged the chairman, PTCL, to direct the local officials to restore their connections immediately.

The DET said that some numbers had been restored and others would soon be restored.—BoC
