‘Judiciary can help prevent HR violations’

KHAIRPUR, Dec 11: The district Nazim, Nafisa Shah, has said the judiciary can play an important role in preventing the violation of human rights.

She was addressing a function organized by the Young Students Welfare Association and other local organizations late Tuesday night to mark the International Human Rights Day.

The district Nazim said that women and children mostly became the victims of the violation of human rights, and added that they were tortured and even killed over minor domestic affairs.

She said that children who were compelled to work due to unavoidable circumstances were tortured physically as well as mentally.

She criticized the police for never caring to prevent violation of human rights but rather was involved itself in violating it.

The function was also addressed by Tehsin Bhutto and Jehangir Ahsan among others.

PPP: Syed Muhammad Bachal Shah, PPP leader, and president, Khairpur District Bar Association, has said that his removal from the Sachal Chair, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, was political victimization.

While talking to newsmen on Wednesday, he claimed that his appointment had been made on the basis of merit.

NOMINATION: Three candidates belonging to the PML(F) and one candidate belonging to the PPP filed their nomination papers in the bye-elections for NA-162 Khairpur-II (Nara, Faiz Ganj, and Thari Mirwah Talukas) on Wednesday.

Syed Javed Ali Shah Jilani (PML-F), Syed Niaz Hussain Shah Jilani (PML-F), Syed Mahram Ali Shah (PML-F), and Syed Pyar Ahmed Shah Jilani (PPP) filed their nomination papers before the returning officer, Thari Mirwah sub-division.

ROBBED: Three armed robbers blocked the Ranipur-Sobhodero link road, near the Watni village, about 40 kms from here, and robbed passengers late Monday night.

They continued looting passengers for about an hour and then escaped.
