ISLAMABAD, Dec 11: The National Energy Conservation Policy will be formulated after a broad-based national consultative process involving all the stakeholders.
“Energy conservation is not only an important environmental activity but also have an important role to play for the national economy,” Maj (retd) Tahir Iqbal, Minister of State (Incharge) for Environment said during an introductory briefing at the National Centre for Energy Conservation (Enercon) on Wednesday.
The minister was given a detailed presentation about the various energy conservation projects being undertaken by Enercon by its managing director.
The minister said that steps would be taken to ensure successful completion of all the funded projects in the environment sector within the time frame set, so that money did not lapse.
The minister said that donor agencies providing funding for the environment-related projects would be facilitated as “we need technical and financial assistance for pursuing our objectives in the sector.”
He said that efforts would be made to revive the various energy conservation projects of USAID in Pakistan which were previously being run successfully.
He added that a campaign to create mass awareness about environmental issues would be initiated and the PTV would be asked to provide air time on subsidized rates for the purpose.
He said that all the strata of society needed to be targeted. Making children conscious of environmental issues is particularly rewarding as they can play an effective role at individual and collective level.
