Jewellery show attracts visitors

ISLAMABAD, Dec 11: A colourful exhibition of stylish jewellery, design glass and lamps was held at a local hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

The exhibition was organized under the auspices of the Romanian embassy and Pakistan-Romania Friendship Forum as part of the national day celebrations of Romania.

Most of the jewellery on display at the exhibition has been designed by Ana-Maria Ghitulescu, the wife of the Romanian ambassador.

Ambassador Dr Emil Ghitulescu, who inaugurated the exhibition, said Romania, like Pakistan, was blessed with a very rich culture moulded by diverse influences throughout its colourful and vibrant history. This exhibition would be a tangible evidence of the spirit of an ancient culture, philosophy and art of the Romanians, he added.

Appreciating the artistic work, he said all items of glass, including galle and murano, were mouth-blown and hand-painted. The fashion-jewellery is characterized by refinement and elegance.

“There has always been a creative interaction between the endless charm, colour, transparency and light of nature and human being, who is constantly feeling and responding to the invitation to decorate his own habitat, waiting for a proper moment to let the creativity implanted by God in his soul flourish,” the ambassador said.

Mr Ghitulescu said artists from Romania expressed the joy of life in works such as stained glass, lamps and Galle-style items. The old heritage of ceramics, dating back to thousands of years, is continued by contemporary designers endowed with the capacity to bring colour and light into our homes, he added.

This exhibition is a combination of art from Europe, Asia and Africa, a fusion of the beauty of stained glass, Galle and contemporary lamps with the perpetual magnetism of antique and ethnically-inspired modern jewellery.

On this occasion, the ambassador’s wife, Ana-Maria Ghitulescu, said: “Pakistani people have greatly impressed me with their characteristic sense of harmony and vivid colour combination.”

SHE SAID: “I have allowed my own artistic inclination to express the optimism and happiness I am experiencing in this country.”

The wives of the ambassadors of Japan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia, Russia and Mauritius beside others were also present on the occasion.—APP
