LAHORE, Dec 10: PML-Q president Mian Azhar said on Tuesday that he was expecting a no-trust motion against him and he would have been surprised if it had not been tabled.

Talking to reporters at his residence, he held the Chaudhris of Gujrat responsible for the move against him and said he would announce his future course of action in consultation with his friends.

Lahore’s Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir, a lawyer, was the only leader present on the occasion.

Mian Azhar insisted that he was right in his stand on all issues as he had raised his voice for the rights of his party men. Those who could not run the party according to the constitution could not be expected to adhere to the basic law while ruling the country, he added.

He said the party president on his own or the party secretary-general on a requisition could call a meeting of the party’s general council.

He said Salim saifullah Khan, who had called the meeting, was not the constitutional secretary-general of the party as Mr Jamali as prime minister had no right to appoint him.

He said he was opposed to the suspension of the floor-crossing law to bring in legislators of other parties to the PML-Q fold. If the cabinet was crammed with leaders of other parties, how would the PML-Q manifesto be implemented, he questioned.

He said at the Sunday’s meeting with him, the Chaudhris had told him that they regarded him as their brother and that they were not a party to the appointment of Mr Saifullah as acting secretary-general.

He told a questioner that leadership of the party had never been a consideration for him and he had always tried to uphold principles. Whenever something unconstitutional was done, he had raised his voice against it, he said.

Asked whether he would fight back or prefer to give in, Mian Azhar said he would take a decision at the right time.

He said he had been opposing corrupt people, not the establishment.

About the party’s defeat on the Lahore seats in the recent elections, the PML-Q president said he was not responsible for it. Some elements, known to everyone, were responsible for the defeat, he said, without elaborating further.
