LAHORE, Dec 10: Gov Khalid Maqbool on Tuesday visited the recently completed ‘Environmental Law Centre’ at the Punjab University Law College, which would be formally inaugurated in February.
Dr Pervez Hassan has spent Rs25 million on the centre and gifted it to his alma mater. Located on the premises of the Punjab University’s new campus, the centre has state-of-the-art classrooms, a 365-seat auditorium and reading rooms. It will be handed over to the Punjab University within the six weeks.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor lauded the generosity and commitment of Dr Hassan — the internationally known Pakistani expert in environmental law who was also the key figure in framing the Pakistan Environmental Act 1997.
Assuring financial and other support for the centre, the governor agreed to a proposal for the creation of an endowment fund for running the centre. He also agreed to set up a board of governors comprising experts for the centre.
Talking to this agency, Dr Hassan said the Punjab government had been requested to provide Rs20 million for the centre. He said the governor had agreed to consider the request favourably. —-APP
