No papers filed for by-polls in Sindh

KARACHI, Dec 10: Not a single nomination paper was filed on Tuesday for the by-elections, scheduled for Jan 15, in the four National Assembly and five Sindh Assembly constituencies in Sindh.

These seats have fallen vacant as these nine members were elected on both national and provincial seats in the October polls. Five of them have opted for their NA seats while the rest retained their provincial ones.

Tuesday was the first day for filing nomination papers for the by-elections and the last date has been fixed as Dec 15.

Since Dec 3, more than 130 nomination papers have been issued to those interested in contesting the elections.

The four NA constituencies where by-elections are to be held are: NA-201 Ghotki, NA-216 Khairpur, NA-229 Tharparker and NA-242 Karachi, vacated by Mohammad Ali Maher, Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, Dr Arbab Rahim and Mohammad Abdul Rauf respectively.

The provincial seats on which by-elections will be held area: PS-10 Shikarpur, PS-12 Shikarpur, PS-18 Jacobabad, PS-76 Dadu, and PS-86 Thatta, vacated by Ghous Bux Maher, Dr Ibrahim Jatoi, Sardar Salim Jan Mazari, Liaquat Ali Jatoi and Ayaz Shah Sheerazi respec-tively.
