KARACHI: Explosion ruptures gas pipeline

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 10: Karachi will face a shortfall of 100mmcfd of gas following damage to SSGC’s 20-inch Indus Right Bank Pipeline near Shahiwah canal crossing riser, about 20 miles from Sui, on Tuesday.

The shortage will last about 24-36 hours, says an announcement of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), adding that the company has, however, taken load-management measures to ensure that gas supply to Quetta region as well as domestic and commercial customers is continued safely.

The gas supply had been suspended from Sui on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, the pipeline was ruptured as a result of a bomb placed at the riser of overhead canal crossing. Requisite pipeline bends, welding equipment had been dispatched from SSGC Khadeji construction camp.

Repair work is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours and gas supply will be restored subsequently, the SSGC said.
