KARACHI: MMA sticks to 27 points for joining Sindh govt
KARACHI, Dec 10: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Sindh, has reiterated its stance on coalition partnership saying that it would support any party which endorsed the 27 points put forward by the alliance.
The MMA parliamentary party, which met here on Tuesday, expressed its determination to play a ‘historical role’ in the formation of a government in Sindh. The meeting was chaired by the Sindh chief of the MMA, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto.
The meeting observed that any government to be formed in Sindh without the support of the MMA would prove fragile and short-lived. It decided to fully take part in the forthcoming by-elections for which recommendations would be sent to the central election board.
Maulana Omer Sadiq, MMA’s parliamentary party leader in Sindh, told the meeting that the parliamentary party would meet on Wednesday to discuss the issues related to the government formation.
The meeting appreciated the performance of the MMA’s negotiating team in its parlays with other parties and discussed the outcome.
It condemned the recent acts of terrorism in Karachi and adopted several resolutions in this regard. It also condemned the murder of the labour leader, Pasha Gul, and demanded arrest of his killers.
In one of the resolutions, the meeting condemned the American plan to attack on Iraq and announced that black day would be observed on Friday.
Besides the MMA’s members in the National and Sindh Assembly, local leaders of the alliance’s component parties attended the meeting. Prominent among them were Maulana Omer Sadiq, Nasrullah Shajih, Abdul Sattar Afghani, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Laeeq Ahmed Khan, Maulana Ehsanullah Hazarvi, Younus Barai, Abdul Rehman Rajput, Hafiz Muhammad Taqi, Allama Hassan Turabi and Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui.—APP
