KARACHI, Dec 10: The hearing of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s constitutional petition against the Legal Framework Order provisions disqualifying her from contesting the polls held under them was on Tuesday adjourned by the Sindh High Court to Jan 28, because of the non-availability of two members of the full bench hearing it.
The bench consists of Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed, Justice Ghulam Rabbani, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Mushir Alam. Justice Rabbani and Justice Jamali have been assigned to the SHC’s Hyderabad bench and were not available to constitute the full bench on Tuesday.
PEARL CASE: The appeals filed by the convicts in Daniel Pearl murder case could not proceed before a division bench, comprising Justice Wahid Bux Brohi and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffrey, due to the absence of one of their counsel.
The main accused, Ahmad Omar Shaikh, was sentenced to death and Ahad Nasim, Suleman Saqib and Shaikh Adil were awarded life term by an anti-terrorism court. They have challenged their conviction and sentences through different lawyers. Appellant Saqib’s counsel, Rai Bashir, was absent on Tuesday and the hearing was adjourned to a date in office.
