FAISALABAD, Dec 9: The local police arrested trader Gulzar Ahmed involved in the Anarkali Bazaar brawl while all the 10 nominated constables of Rescue 15 were still at large.
The police raided the house of Gulzar in Jhang Bazaar and arrested him for his involvement in a case registered against 10 constables and three shopkeepers for creating law and order situation at a local commercial centre.
Shopkeepers of Anarkali Bazaar and nearby commercial centres on Thursday last had gone berserk when the Rescue 15 constables arrested the guard and three shopkeepers and locked them at Kotwali police station during a quarrel between two traders.
Reacting strongly, the traders forced the police to register a case against constables Imran, Shahid, Shakeel, Zahid, Sarfraz, Shah Muhammad, Tauqeer, Afzal, Maqsood, Naeem and shopkeepers Abdul Razzaq, Qavi and Gulzar.
Meanwhile, Anjuman Tajiran, Faisalabad, demanded of the police highups to immediately arrest the nominated accused constables otherwise they would come on roads. The ATF office-bearers also made it clear that they would not allow the police for one-sided investigation.
ARRESTED: Factory Area police have registered a case against eight people and arrested three of them on the charge of attacking a mosque Imam here on Monday.
Maulana Sher, prayer leader of Jamia Masjid Samanabad, informed the Rescue 15 police that some people had attacked him with daggers when he was on the way to offer the prayer in the mosque. The police immediately rushed to the mosque but the alleged attackers had escaped. The Imam also blamed the accused for creating law and order situation in the area.
Police booked eight people, including Umer Din, Bholi Butt, Iqbal Butt. Police later raided the house of Umer Din and arrested him along with Iqbal and Bholi.
Meanwhile, the accused alleged that Maulana Sher was involved in misappropriating thousands of rupees on account of the donation. The Maulana implicated them in a false case just to conceal his crime, they added.
KILLED: A married woman was killed while two other women sustained serious injuries on Monday when a tonga overturned in Chak 172-GB.
Shahida Perveen was going to bazaar along with her other family members by a tonga when it suddenly overturned. As a result, Perveen died instantly while her two relative women sustained critical wounds.
PA SPEAKER: Punjab Assembly Speaker Afzal Sahi has said that he would uphold the democratic culture by serving the entire province through promotion of parliamentary traditions.
He was talking to newsmen at his Chak Jhumra residence on Monday.
Mr Sahi said that the Punjab Assembly would undertake the legislation aimed at improving the lot of common man, traders and tillers.
SUICIDE: A young girl committed suicide in Chak No 123 RB here on Monday.
Robina, 19, was admonished by her mother over a minor issue. The girl allegedly took poison and died on way to a hospital.
Meanwhile, teenager Naveed Shahzad was found strangled under mysterious circumstances in Chak No 585 GB.
Satiana police sent the body to the Allied Hospital for autopsy after registration of a case.
