PESHAWAR, Dec 8: The Muttahida Majli-i-Amal (MMA) vice-president vowed on Sunday that the religious bloc would disrupt the President Musharraf’s government and assist Baghdad if Iraq was attacked by the United States.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who is also Jamaat-i-Islami chief, told some 4,000 supporters that the MMA “will support Iraq against America” and in case of attack “will help Iraq financially and physically.”

“If the Musharraf government supports the United States in case of an attack against Iraq, we will start an agitation and disable it from running its government affairs,” Qazi said.

He also told supporters, who had assembled to offer him Eid greetings, that the United States and other Western countries “want to make us their slaves. But we will break the chains of slavery and will establish an Islamic government in Pakistan.”

The Jamaat chief pledged that Afghans would rise up and eventually “defeat” the United States, and denounced the US alliance with Israel.

“Why is America silent over Israel’s atrocities in Palestine ... but search for Iraqi weapons in the presidential palaces?” he questioned.—AFP
