HYDERABAD, Dec 5: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has enhanced funds for research projects of the University of Sindh to Rs2 million, SU registrar Saeed Ahmed Soomro said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Sindh University’s Advanced Studies and Research Board.

He informed the meeting that the HEC had broadened scope of the disciplines for research projects to the faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities, adding that the previously the HEC provided Rs1 million for research projects.

The vice chancellor, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, urged the members of the research board to encourage young scholars in their effort to broaden their knowledge.

A 14-point agenda was discussed by the meeting, mostly comprising research-oriented proposals and academic activities at the campus.

Names of supervisors for research scholars and topics for M Phil were also discussed.

A three-member committee was also constituted to prepare the draft of rules for MPhil and PhD research work for guidance and help of different decision-making bodies and for proper guidance of the research scholars.

CONDOLENCE: The faculty staff members and students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, at a meeting held in Jamshoro on Wednesday, have expressed profound sorrow and grief over the demise of Professor Ibrahim Memon, former principal and head of the department of paediatrics, defunct Liaquat Medical College.
