KARACHI, Dec 4: The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, convicted on Wednesday four Nigerian drug traffickers and awarded them different jail terms.
The drug traffickers had concealed different quantities of heroin, stuffed into specially-insulated capsules, in their body cavities. They all were intercepted by the Anti-narcotics Force at Quaid-i-Azam International Airport, where they had gone to board different international flights.
Henry Okey, arrested on Sept 4 this year, was found guilty of carrying 443 gram contraband drug stuffed into 30 capsules. He was sentenced to two and a half years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000. He would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he failed to pay the fine.
Chidiebere Omehihu and Kwame Amponsah, arrested on Sept 6 this year, were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for carrying more than half kg heroin each. Omehihu had 688 gram heroin stuffed into 47 capsules, and Amponsah had hidden 690 gram contraband drug stuffed into 50 capsules.
The judge imposed a fine of Rs50,000 each on the two drug traffickers.
They would have to undergo and an additional three months’ RI if they defaulted on the payment of fine.
ACQUITTED: The same judge acquitted three people who were charged with possession of different quantities of charas.
The judge acquitted Ziaul Haq alias Zawal, Juma Gul and Zahoor Ahmed of the charge of possessing, in all, 25 kg contraband narcotics as the prosecution could not establish its case against them.
The defendants were represented by Syed Ahmed Ali Shah.
