Leading stars for Memorial Cup

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: The 4th All-Pakistan Siraj-ul-Islam Memorial tennis tournament, expected to attract leading players of the country, is due to begin at the PTF Complex from Dec 29.

The tournament that offers handsome cash prizes, will be contested in men’s singles, junior under-18, boys under-14 singles, boys under-12 singles, girls under-18 and girls under-14 events.

The late Siraj, father of Pakistan tennis greats Inam, Islam and Hameed, was India’s professional champion for a decade before partition. He played a vital role in the development of Pakistan tennis. More than a dozen players trained by him went on to become tennis internationals.

Siraj was also a squash coach and trained Roshan Khan. As a hockey player he helped Spartan Club Rawalpindi win the Agha Khan Gold Cup in Bombay before partition.

Sikander Ajam, chairman, PTF, development committee has been named the Tournament Director while Arif Qureshi will be the referee.
