LAHORE, Dec 3: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi says his government will make all-out efforts for the stability and success of the district government system.

Addressing a meeting of 34 district Nazimeen from Punjab at the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday, Elahi said continuity of the system would be ensured at all cost.

According to him, a ‘comprehensive strategy’ would be evolved to settle all affairs at the local level with the consent of Parliament members and the Nazimeen.

The parliamentarians, he added, were also accountable to the public regarding solution to their problems.

The chief minister, however, assured the Nazimeen that the district government system had an independent and autonomous status. “Therefore, there will be no unnecessary interference because the government wants to protect the present system.”

Elahi further told them that he won’t allow any one to create conditions which might lead to confrontation among them and assembly members.

He said that ambiguity in the system, if any, would be removed so that maximum benefits could be provided to the masses.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazimeen said the district government system was a silent revolution which should be retained. Extending their cooperation and unconditional support to the chief minister, they pledged to solve all the matters amicably.

S&GAD: The chief minister has directed the Services and General Administration department to take necessary steps for enhancing the performance of government machinery through professional training of government servants and infusing them with a spirit of service to the masses.

He gave these directives during a briefing given to him at the Services & General Administr-ation Department on Tuesday.

He said S&GAD was an important department and if it worked efficiently all other departments would also improve their performance.

The briefing was given by the Secretary, Services & General Administration, Saeed Ahmad Khan.—APP
