Badar’s bail plea to be heard on 9th

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Dec 3: An Ehtesab bench of the Lahore High Court could not take up on Tuesday the bail application of PPP secretary-general Jahangir Badar owing to the termination of court timings.

The application would now be heard on Dec 9.

Badar has filed the application for grant of bail in two references, accusing him of misusing his official position for amassing Rs50 million worth assets and making illegal recruitments in the SNGPL, the SSGC, the OGDC and the PSO.

REFERRED TO CJ: Justice Zahid Hussain Bukhari referred a contempt of court matter pending against DHA secretary to the chief justice.

The judge observed that owing to the gravity of the offence committed by the DHA secretary, a larger bench should be constituted for hearing the case.

These recommendations were made after the bailiff informed the court that DHA secretary had refused to accept an ejectment notice to vacate a private school.

According to the bailiff, the DHA secretary called armed men when the he was asked to vacate the school according to the court orders and gave threats of serious consequences.

DIRECTIVE TO NAB: An Ehtesab bench directed the NAB to produce the investigation report and other relevant record on Wednesday (today) relating to a Khybar Tractor Ltd (KTL) reference.

The directions were given on a bail application filed by KTL development manager Hammad Khalid arrested by NAB in a Rs84 million embezzlement reference.

The petitioner submitted that he had no connection with the alleged embezzlement since he was an employee of the organization and had no concern with the policy or decision-making.

NAB counsel submitted that according to the investigation report, principal accused Khalid Sharif and Asif Sharif had transferred Rs6.9 million out of KTL’s funds to a newly-formed company, Kantron, during 1996.

He submitted that these funds were transferred through bearer cheques and accused Hammad was the custodian of these cheques.

He actually assisted in this alleged transaction.

To a court query, the NAB counsel expressed inability to produce the investigating report. The court directed him to produce the report on the next day along with the other record.
