KARACHI, Dec 3: Sindh Chief Secretary, K. B. Rind has taken a serious note of the non-utilization of eight expensive dialyses machines in the Lyari General Hospital since one decade.
He found these costly machines lying idle during a surprise visit to the hospital on Tuesday along with health secretary Ameer Ali Burq and other officials.
Medical superintendent of the hospital informed the chief secretary that the dialyses machines had remained in the store without being utilized.
Mr Rind asked the health secretary to conduct an enquiry into the matter and submit a report within ten days.
He directed that action be taken against former medical superintendents who did not use the equipment.
Mr Rind called for the formation of hospital management advisory committee in each government hospital, comprising the representatives of relevant departments like KESC, KWSB, WASA, Social Welfare, health, so that work pertaining to hospital management could be ascertained for their smooth functioning throughout the province.
He asked for a progress report of all the government hospitals, specifically elaborating the utilization of machines and equipment available for installation.
Earlier, during a visit to the Civil Hospital, the chief secretary was informed by patients that medicines prescribed by doctors were mostly not available in the dispensary.
Mr Rind asked the hospital MS to ensure that only those medicines are prescribed which are available.
He asked the health secretary to pay surprise visits once a week to different hospitals in order to remove bottlenecks.—APP
