LAHORE, Dec 2: The Sheikh Zayed Hospital management has removed Prof Mansoorul Hasan Alvi, director of the Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences (INHS), apparently in line with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) order which restricts the employment of any person over the age of 70 years in teaching hospitals.

The order was issued by SZH deputy dean Prof Abdul Hameed Khan with reference to the cabinet division letter on Monday.

It is learnt that the cabinet division letter has given a reference of the PMDC order that no person of and over the age of 70 years can be employed in teaching hospitals. The order said it would not be recognized as an authentic teaching post if it was occupied by anybody who was over the age of 70 years.

It is, however, learnt that Prof Alvi is the only person, who has been relieved under the PMDC order. It is also relevant to mention that PMDC chairman Prof Hayat Zafar is also acting vice-chancellor of the University of Health Science.

When contacted, Prof Alvi said he had himself gave the idea of INHS in 1992 and the building was constructed under his supervision. Regular classes were started in 1994. At present, the eighth session of medical lab technologies and seventh session of nursing courses was in progress. Seventy-six students were enrolled in the medical lab technology courses, while 131 students were in nursing course.
