Robbers on a looting spree in twin cities

RAWALPINDI, Dec 2: A man was shot and injured, while cash and jewellery were looted in eight different robberies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, three persons snatched Rs300,000 at gunpoint from the contractor of a toll plaza in Golra area on Monday, the police said.

Akhtar Abbas told the police that on his way to Golra after collecting cash, he found three persons standing in the middle of the road.

He said soon he stopped his car, the culprits besieged his car and asked him at gunpoint to surrender the cash.

The culprits, who seems to be in their 20s, snatched Rs300,000 from the contractor and escaped.

In another incident, two persons snatched Rs250,000 at gunpoint from the owner of a filling station at Asghar Mall Scheme on Monday and escaped, the police said.

The deputy superintendent of police, Sardar Maqsood, said Nadeem Anwar was parking his car in his house when he saw two persons standing at the gate. The two strangers, who seems to be in their 40s, held Nadeem Anwar at gunpoint outside his house and forced him to drive.

The robbers drove him to a deserted place where they snatched the car and escaped, the police said.

In the third incident, two persons entered a garment shop at Murree road, Chandni Chowk, and looted Rs11,000. They also took away with them a huge quantity of garments and escaped, the police said.

The robbery took place right opposite to the Rawalpindi General Hospital, where two persons entered “Unique Garments” and held its owner Chaudhry Asif at gunpoint and forced him to give the cash. In Dhoke Najoo, two persons forcibly entered a house, held the housewife and children hostage at gunpoint. They took away with them cash, electronic goods and jewellery and escaped, the police said.

Anser Mehmood told police that two persons entered his house after Iftar and held his wife and son hostage at gunpoint.

He said the culprits threatened his wife to kill her if the cash and jewellery were not handed over to them. They took away with them Rs25,000, jewellery and a television set.

Similarly, four persons entered the house of Mukhtar Rasheed at Chakri Road after Iftar and escaped after looting cash and two wrist watches, police said.

Nadeem Butt, a shopkeeper at Pindora, was shot and injured by two persons, who entered his shop and snatched Rs4,000 at gunpoint and escaped on Monday, police said.

In another incident, three persons stormed a jewellery shop in Westridge Ghosia colony, looted Rs20,000 and jewellery and escaped.

Meanwhile, two armed men snatched a car (K-5405) at gunpoint from Mohammad Aslam in Westridge and escaped. Earlier, the pick-up of Kashif Ahmed (IDE-6976) was stolen from Lane 4 westridge on Monday, the police said.

APP ADDS: A group of burglars active in Islamabad decamped with prize bonds, gold ornaments, camera and a watch worth Rs100,000, when the house inmates were sleeping on Sunday night.

According to Police, some persons trespassed in the house of Qaisar Abbass in I-9 area and made off the valuables.

In another incident, some persons broke into the house of Muhammad Ameer Khan in sector G-11/2 and fled away after stealing jewellery and Rs70,000.

Accident: A motorcyclist was crushed to death by a speeding car near Zero Point here on Monday.

Police said Muhammad Arif was on his way to office when he was hit by a car approaching from the opposite direction. He died on the spot. The car driver, however, escaped.

In another incident, Faqeer Hussain lost his leg while getting down from a bus (RIR-4940). Owing to the negligence of driver, Mr Faqeer’s one leg was crushed under the wheels.

He was rushed to the Pakistan institute of medical sciences but due to excessive bleeding, the doctors had to amputate his leg.
