KARACHI, Dec 2: Jamaat Islami secretary-general and a leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Munawwar Hasan, has vowed to eradicate, what he called, the menace of extortion, blackmailing and terrorism in Karachi.
Speaking at an iftar dinner in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, hosted by a member-elect of the Sindh Assembly, Younus Bari, he termed the existence of “no-go areas” in the city a sequel to the wrong political policies pursued by Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain.
“The Muttahida has lost ground in Karachi as it no more enjoys the same confidence of people which was once its hallmark, and it has become evident after an overwhelming majority of the masses voted against the decades-old policies of extortion, hatred and violence,” he remarked.
He said the MMA would soon launch a mass-contact campaign in the country to apprise people of the prevailing situation.
Referring to the meetings of MMA leaders with Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali, he said it was made clear to the PM that the MMA would abide by its principled stand on vital issues facing the country.
“Parliament is the most sovereign institute of the country and no compromise can be made to undermine its image and discredit its reputation,” he said.—PPI
