KARACHI: MMA calls for probe into ‘no-go’ areas situation
KARACHI, Dec 2: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, a conglomerate of six religio-political parties, has demanded constitution of a judicial commission to ascertain facts about the so-called ‘no-go’ areas.
The Sindh chief of the MMA, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, has described the ongoing operation in the areas as a bid to create law and order situation in the city. He was talking to a women delegation of Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) which called on him here on Monday. The delegation was headed by the wife of Afaq Ahmed, chairman of the MQM-H.
Maulana Bhutto said that the commission should inquire into the actual situation of the localities being described as ‘no-go areas’.
“Government should restore peace in these areas in order to help the inhabitants celebrate Eid with religious zeal and fervour and in a befitting manner,” he added.
The delegation informed the MMA leader that police and other law enforcement agencies had made their lives miserable by conducting raids continuously and thus violating sanctity of the holy month of Ramazan.
“They have forced males to flee their homes whereas women are being harassed and forced to help the LEAs in locating the ‘absconder’ members of their families,” the delegation deplored.
The MQM-H women demanded a halt to the operation against the MQM-H.
The delegation also called for the convening of the Sindh Assembly session and said that the majority parliamentary party should be given an opportunity to form government.
Maulana Bhutto assured MMA’s full support to the delegation’s stand against injustices and urged the government to stop the operation against the MQM-H. He said that the judicial commission should look into the allegations made by both the parties involved in the ‘no-go’ areas syndrome.
The MMA leader also called for the convening of the inaugural session of Sindh Assembly to end political deadlock in the province.—PPI
