CONVENTION: Durable peace in the region is not possible till Kashmir issue is resolved peacefully as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The central secretary-general of United Kashmir People’s National Party, Sardar Ishtiaq Hussain Khan, said this while speaking at a convention of National Student Organization.
He said the Kashmir issue was created by the British in 1947 to keep a control over the two newly-created countries, Pakistan and India. The problem has now turned into a cancer that has not only caused destruction in Kashmir, but also created economic problems for Pakistan and India.
Mr Khan said owing to the wrong policies of the leadership of the two countries, today, Pakistan had $36.5 billion debt, while that on India was more than $90 billion.
He said the rate of unemployment in South Asia was more than 10 per cent, and more than 50 per cent population was living below poverty line. Democratic values, progressive thoughts and secular forces are being weakened, while extremism and terrorism are flourishing in the region.
It is the moral and historical responsibility of the democratic and progressive forces to come forward and play their effective role in liberating the people from the grip of exploitation, Mr khan said.
The president of National Student Organization, Sardar Aftab Ahmed Khan, speaking on the occasion, said a revolution in Kashmir would be a revolution in the entire South Asia.
He said the current exploitative system, which the ruling elite of South Asia had introduced on behest of their foreign masters, had completed its age.
