MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 29: Azad Kashmir High Court has expressed its displeasure over the alleged inaction of the government regarding implementation of the court’s proposals for reformation of the judiciary and has asked it to do so within 60 days.

Sources in the high court told Dawn on Tuesday that the proposals aimed at “streamlining the system, upholding the independence and integrity of the judiciary” were sent to the government, through the law department, from time to time, but no heed was paid to them.

Last time they were sent on March 29 with the necessary documents, but so far the court has not been informed what action had been taken on them or whether they were considered, the sources said.

Sources said the issue was discussed at the recent meeting of the Council of Judges, where the members were displeased over the alleged indifference of the government.

The proposals, according to sources, include, delegation of financial and administrative powers to the high court like that of Punjab; establishment of a service tribunal for the subordinate judiciary and amendment to the Family Court Act so that the appeals against the family court judgments could be filed in the high court instead of the Shariat Court.

It has recommended amendment to the law enabling the Shariat Court chief justice to empower any member of the bench to take the final decision.
