Customs Academy too strong for SSGC
Fine unbeaten half centuries by Atiq-uz-Zaman 57 and 53 by Maisam Hassan, saw Baqai Dolphins CC cruise into the semifinal of the Dalpat R. Sonavaria Ramazan Trophy, with a comfortable 10-wicket triumph over Bed & Bath CC Thursday. Baqai Dolphins winning the toss put Bed & Bath into bat, who in turn were restricted to 112 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Asad Ahmed top scored with 37 and Salman Khan weighed in with 26. Atif Maqbool three for 29 and Adnan Malik two for 11, caused the damage. Baqai Dolphins coasted to a 10-wicket triumph reaching 115 for no loss in 13.2 overs. Friday fixtures: Dewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills v Customs CC 1-30 p.m. (Quarterfinals). UBL “B” registered a narrow three-wicket victory over Memon Gymkhana on the very last ball, in the Baqai Inter Academies Ramazan Festival Thursday. Batting first, Memon Gymkhana scored 147 for the loss of four wickets with Irfan (58 n.o.) and Abrar-ul-Haq (57) among the runs. UBL B reachied 148 for seven with only one delivery remaining. Raheel Qudvai was top scorer with 42. A match winning unbroken partnership of 100 for the fourth wicket between Mohammad Ali (60 n.o.) and Haq Nawaz (40 n.o.), steered Saddar Town CC to a shocking 94-run victory over Southern Telecommunication Range (STR II) in the seventh Danish Trophy Ramazan tournament Thursday. Saddar Town electing to bat after winning the toss, raced to 227 for three wickets in 20 overs with Habib Raj (48) and Akif Alvi (30), also making valuable contributions. STR II could not cope up with the fine bowling of Zulifiqar Ahmed three for 16 and Shahid Usman three for 17 and could only manage to reach 133 for eight. David Decruze top scored with 29 runs. This marvellous victory enabled Saddar Town to top Group A. Rangers were second on a better run rate of 8.77 compared to STR II 7.51, after both team were tied for the second berth with five points apiece Friday’s fixture: Mohammad Hussain CC v Rangers Gymkhana 1-45 p.m. (First semifinal). A blistering 83 by Asif Zakir, enabled Deewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills to march into the semifinal of the Eighth Tapal Trophy Ramazan Festival tournament, edging out Shalimar CC by 28 runs Thursday. Batting first, Deewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills comfortably placed at 122 for two, were later restricted to 201 for eight wickets in their 25 overs. Asif slammed seven fours and two sixes in his 83 and was aided by Fahadullah (31) and Wasim Naeem (28). Off-spinner Aftab Ahmed bowled a fine line and length to finish with figures of three for 33. Losing their first wicket with only one run on the board, Shalimar quickly recovered as Man of the Match Shaheen Malik (84) with eight fours and a six and Shehreyar Farrukh (33) adding 96 runs for the second wicket before the latter parted company. But when Shaheen was needlessly run out with the score at 123 for two, the rest of the batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards and Shalimar were dismissed for 173 runs in 23.4 overs. Left-arm paceman Nasir Khan using the new ball for good measure, grabbed three wickets for 33 runs.
