Annan greets Jamali


ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 : United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, has congratulated Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on assumption of the office of prime minister of Pakistan.

According to a Foreign Office spokesman, the secretary- general in his message expressed confidence that political experience of Mr Jamali would go a long way towards strengthening democratic institutions in the country.

“In carrying out your important new responsibilities, I am confident that your varied and rich political experience will be of immense benefit as Pakistan strengthens its democratic institutions and continues to play an important role in the international and regional affairs,” the UN secretary-general said.

The Prime Minister of Algeria, M. Ali Benflis, had also greeted Mr Jamali on assumption of the office of prime minister.

“I wish you all the success in your honourable mission and affirm the wishes of the Algerian government to emphasize upon the relations of cooperation between the two countries according to the interests of our two countries and Ummah,” Mr Benflis said in his message.—APP
