Canada plans new visa policy for students

By Latafat Ali Siddiqui

TORONTO, Nov 27: Ottawa is intending to introduce a one-window operation to help Pakistani students get Canadian visa as quickly as possible, Pakistani High Commissioner Shahid Malik said on Tuesday after meeting Citizenship and Immigration Minister Denis Coderre.

Mr Malik said he discussed with Coderre several issues concerning Pakistani immigrants, delay in granting visa to students and the difficulties faced by Pakistanis, particularly the professionals, who were unable to get proper jobs after their arrival here.

According to the high commissioner, Coderre was aware of the difficulties being faced by the students and said a student visa should not take more than 28 days.

However, he said the visas would be processed quickly when the proposed one-window operation was introduced.

He said that under the plan Canadian universities would be authorized to issue all relevant documents at one place to reduce processing time.
