Provinces getting due share of water: PM: Talks held with Bugti

By Shamim Shamsi & Saleem Shahid

SUKKUR/QUETTA, Nov 25: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Monday that Sindh and Balochistan were getting full share of their water quota.

He was talking to newsmen at the Sukkur airport after returning from Dera Bugti where he had discussed the formation of the government in Balochistan with Jamhoori Watan Party chief Nawab Mohammed Akbar Bugti.

Mr Jamali said there had been no reports that Balochistan and Sindh were not getting water according to their quota or were being subjected to injustice in this regard.

He said none of the two provinces would be allowed to face any problems whatsoever. “No province is stopping the water of these two provinces and all the four provinces are getting the due share of their respective water quota,” Mr Jamali elaborated.

However, the prime minister assured, if any province had any reservations then the government would certainly look into it.

The prime minister said that no poor person residing near the railway tracks in Sukkur would be dislocated. If the land belongs to the Sindh government, he pointed out, then action by the Pakistan Railways was unwarranted and assured that he would talk to the railways ministry on the matter. He said Ghaus Bakhsh Maher had been appointed railway minister and as a public representative he (Mr Maher) would resolve the issue.

The prime minister said that the government would provide jobs to the unemployed. He further said that the country’s economy would be strengthened so that more and more job opportunities could be created.

Earlier, the acting district Nazim, Mohammed Iqbal Dawood, informed the prime minister that the PR was planning to dislodge thousands of people residing near the railway tracks and that the PR staff had already demolished many houses.

In Dera Bugti, the JWP chief informed Mr Jamali and the PML leaders that his party, to the day, had not decided about supporting any other party for the formation of the coalition government in Balochistan, and the final decision would be taken at the meeting of the central working committee.

As far as the JWP’s support to the Jamali-led government was concerned it would depend on its performance and attitude towards the province and its people, the sources quoted Mr Bugti as having said.

When contact over phone Mr Bugti said that he had made it clear to the PM that his party’s support to the Jamali-led government in the Centre and a coalition government in the province would depend on its policies towards Balochistan.

Responding to a question he said that as far as the JWP’s support to Jam Yousaf was concerned the decision would be taken by the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) as his party was part of it.

Mr Bugti said that other parliamentary groups including PONAM had also approached him regarding the formation of the new coalition government in the province.

SINDH POLICE: Mr Jamali directed the Sindh police to take all steps for providing security to the life and property of people. He told the police not to spare any criminal no matter how powerful he may be and added that the supremacy of law should be maintained at all costs.

The prime minister said this while talking to Inspector-General Syed Kamal Shah in Sukkur before his departure for Islamabad in the evening. The IG briefed the prime minister about the steps taken for the maintenance of law and order.

The prime minister said the police should not violate the sanctity of chaddar aur chardeewari. He said the police attitude towards the people should be better so that their trust in the department could be restored. Once the police won the people’s confidence it would help eliminate crime, he emphasized
