SIALKOT, Nov 25: More than 15,000 teachers of the district’s primary to higher secondary schools will not get salaries for November before Eidul Fitr after the introduction of new system of payment by the district accounts office.
Talking to the newsmen here on Monday, Punjab Teachers Union provincial information secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra said the accounts office would pay salaries through cross-cheques. The clearance of these cheques would take at least two weeks.
Mr Nagra criticized the high-ups for making disbursement of salaries cumbersome.
He urged the Sialkot district accounts officer to order payment of November’s salary in cash so that poor teachers could celebrate Eid with their families without any tension.
Bail plea rejected: A local court on Monday cancelled the bail application of a sub-inspector and a constable in a murder case of Head Marala-based journalist.
The judge chargesheeted the accused policemen and summoned the prosecutor witnesses in the court on Dec 2.
Muradpur SI Iqbal and the constable had killed Jaffar Khan and injured seriously his wife in their house in Head Marala.
FOILED: Villagers on Monday foiled a rape bid by Zakat and Ushr Committee chairman with a young widow in Kot Ghumman village, Daska tehsil.
Salma Bibi of Shaikhwaan village had gone to Kot Ghumman village for seeking Zakat where Asmatullah tried to rape her forcibly in his office. Some villages gathered there and saved her when she raised an alarm. The accused, however, managed to escape from the scene.
Daska Saddar police have registered a case against the accused with no arrest.
