KARACHI: Ship dumped dead fish: report

KARACHI, Nov 25: The huge stock of dead fish had been dumped by some fishing vessel which was carried to the Karachi beach by tidal waves, an investigation report, prepared by the Sindh Fisheries Department, revealed on Monday insisting that the elimination of the fish was not caused by any toxic material.

The report said that a joint team of the Sindh Fisheries Department and Marine Fisheries Department had collected specimen of dead fish found along the beach on Nov 17 and 18.

The species of the dead fish included Mori, Bangra, Loi, Khagga or Singhara, Pokhi and Spider Crab. “Most of these fish are inexpensive in the market,” it said.

The report ruled out toxicity of pethogensis as the cause of their death saying that the five-day analysis led to the conclusion that some fishing trawler or boat had disposed of the fish in deep sea to make room for fresh valuable catch.

A separate investigation team of Karachi University and the NIO has verified the report.—APP
