KARACHI, Nov 25: The troubled parts of the city remained calm and peaceful on Monday as no major untoward incident took place. Markets and shops remained open and public transport plied the roads.
Malir, Korangi and Landhi remained disturbed for the past some days and incidents of violence were reported in these areas, together with intermittent firing in the air, which created fear and panic among the residents forcing them to stay indoors.
On Monday, announcements were made from mosques in Malir and other troubled areas asking people to open shops and ply transport as no hurdles would be created in their way.
Residents said activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement made the announcements.
Aerial firing stopped since Monday morning, but activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement and those of their rival, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were present in the troubled areas, and the people were unsure whether this shaky peace would last for long or violence would re-erupt, residents said.
