KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23: The second Asian under-16 hockey tournament scheduled for Dec 22 in Bangladesh has been postponed again, due to lack of interest.
The tournament had originally been slated for November, but the organizers later postponed it to December.
This time around, according to the Malaysian Hockey Federation’s (MHF) Secretary S. Satgunam, organizers failed to get any response from Asian countries and, therefore, decided to hold it in March.
“It seemed that none of the other countries had replied to the December date.
Bangladesh Hockey Association (BHA) have now proposed a March date. That is left to the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to decide,” he told newsmen Saturday.
He said they were informed of the postponement a few days ago.
Satgunam said the postponement means the Malaysian Under-16 team, now training for International Under-19 invitational tournament at National Hockey Stadium here in January, will have to forgo their plans to use Bangladesh tournament as part of their preparations.
The core of the Under-16 team will form the MHF project team that will take part in the five-nation meet at Bukit Jalil Stadium near here.
The other teams are Malaysian Juniors, India, Pakistan and South Korea.—PPI
