LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 23: Police shot dead a person during a robbery attempt on Indus Highway on Saturday.
The police officials, in view of a tip off about planned robberies in the Serai Gambillah area, were riding a truck (9087-PRL), driven by Usman, son of Mohammad Hashim, of South Waziristan Agency, when five armed persons signalled the driver to stop near Kharoba Canal at 2.30am.
The robbers got suspicious about the presence of police and begun firing at the truck.
The police fired in retaliation and severely injured one of the alleged robbers, Arab Khan, son of Habibullah, of Serai Gambillah, who died later at the district headquarters hospital.
The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 80 cartridges. He was also wanted by Tajori police in a number if cases.
A taxi (926-PRL), used during the robbery, driven by Rehmatullah, was also seized.
Arab Khan reportedly told police before his death that his brother, Mashal Khan, was with him.
The police have registered a case and are conducting raids to arrest the others involved in the incident.
