LAHORE, Nov 22: An impressive nine goal rally enabled Shahpur to make a brilliant comeback and march into the final of the Chrysanthemum Cup polo tournament after a convincing 9-3 win against Holiday Inn at the Lahore Polo Club ground Friday.
Shahpur scored nine goals after conceding a 3-1 lead at the end of the first chukker. Azam Hayat Tiwana was the main architect of the win, scoring four goals. He started the rally by scoring a field goal in the dying minutes of the first chukker, finishing with it with his fourth goal in the final chukker.
Shahpur restored the parity 3-3 in the second chukker when Ahmad Ali Tiwana, who scored two goals, banged home his first followed by the second goal from Azam.
Ahmad scored his second goal in the start of the third chukker to give Shahpur a 4-3 lead for the first time. Shahpur surged ahead through a goal from Irfan Sheikh, who scored three goals in the match, while Azam netted his third goal for a 6-3 lead before the chukker was closed.
In the final chukker, Irfan fired two goals in quick succession. Azam made the tally scoring his fourth goal to complete the convincing win.
Earlier, Millennium Bug won both matches of three-team league to qualify for playing the third position match. Each match was of two chukkers. Millennium Bug won the first match against Brad and Butter 3-2 1/2 and second against Black Berets 5 1/2-3.
In the third encounter, Brad and Butter and Black Berets drew 2-2.
