TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 20: The District Police Officer (DPO) on Wednesday ordered an inquiry against the Nawan Lahore SHO and other policemen for torturing a lecturer and his family members.
Muhammad Shabbir had lodged a plaint with the DPO that SHO Nasir and other policemen raided his house in Chak 337-JB a few days ago. He said the policemen entered the house at the behest of his opponents, tortured him, his family members and misbehaved women. The police arrested him, his father, brother and took them away to police station where they were unclothed and tortured. The SHO also forced them to dance and perform dhamaal, he added.
The complainant demanded that the SHO and policemen involved in the torture and humiliation be terminated from service. Meanwhile, the DPO has asked the ASP to send him the inquiry report within a week.
ARRESTED: Gojra Saddar police on Wednesday claim arresting a proclaimed offender from Gujranwala for his involvement in a bus robbery.
A few months ago, three robbers had looted the bus near Gojra. Two of them were later killed by police in an armed encounter while Muhammad Afzal of Mouza Banka had managed to escape. On Wednesday, the police after receiving an information raided a village in Gujranwala and arrested him. He was brought to Gojra for further interrogation. Police have also obtained his physical remand from a local court.
CONDEMNED: Students of the Government Municipal Degree Collage demonstrated on Tuesday outside the college to condemn city police sub-inspector Mushtaq Bhatti’s conduct who warned the teachers of dire consequences if they did not end their boycott of classes.
Raising slogans against the SI, the students blocked the Toba-Jhang road as a result the traffic remained suspended for an hour.
