HYDERABAD, Nov 20: The SHO of Pinyari police station, Rahat Zaidi, here on Wednesday registered a murder case against five persons, including a brother, three uncles and the mother of Shahnaz Jatoi.

The case was registered after receiving the medical report from the special medical board, appointed by the director general, health, on orders of the sixth extra joint civil judge, Ali Ahmed Jan.

The board was constituted to ascertain the cause of death of the young girl, Shahnaz Jatoi, who was allegedly murdered on the pretext of Karo-kari.

Reports indicated that Shahnaz had fallen in love with Ghulam Abbas Jatoi and had eloped with him after her family refused to entertain his proposal.

She was brought back home after some time and was murdered. Her family had claimed that she had committed suicide.

The police, however, suspected the family’s claim and had moved the concerned court to appoint a special medical board to exhume the body and conduct an autopsy.

Under the orders of the court, the director general, health, Sindh, had appointed a five-member special medical board, which had exhumed the body on Nov 16, in the presence of Judge Ali Ahmed Jan.

Subsequently a post-mortem was performed on the exhumed body.

The medical board submitted its report on Wednesday and in its opinion, the special medical board stated, “the findings are consistent with strangulation by ligature, suggestive of violent asphyxial death.”

On receipt of this report, the SHO has registered an FIR No.108/2 u/s 302, 201, 109, 114 and 34 PPC.

The FIR was registered on behalf of the state against, Zulfiqar Jatoi (the brother of the deceased girl), Nasreen Jatoi (mother), Abdur Razzaq Jatoi, Shafqat and Aslam (uncles).
