NSC to have nine elected members: Political developments reviewed

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday briefed governors of the four provinces on internal and border situation of the country. The meeting was also attended by the members of National Security Council (NSC).

Talking to Dawn, the press secretary to the president, Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi, said it has been decided that the NSC would be reconstituted and it would have 13 members including four nominated and nine elected members. The prime minister and all services chiefs would be its members, he added.

He said it was not a formal meeting of the NSC, but the governors were briefed on the changed situation in the country.

He added that the governors were also briefed on the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and withdrawal of Indian troops.

Replying to another question, he said the prevailing political situation of the country was reviewed in the meeting.

Meanwhile, a source said the emerging political scenario and election of speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly also came up under discussion.

The meeting also discussed the formation of new government and its repercussions on internal and international affairs.
