SIALKOT, Nov 19: The parents of industrial worker Mohammad Shafiq — abducted two months ago — got him freed after paying ransom to kidnappers at Nangal village in Daska Tehsil.
Sources said Iqbal, Zulfiqar, Shaukat, Azam, Boota, Zafar Ali, Sarfraz, Arshad, Jamal Din, Akhtar, Baqar and Nawaz had allegedly abducted Mr Shafiq at gunpoint in Lunda Patak on Sept 24 and demanded Rs200,000 as ransom for his release.
The kidnappers struck a deal with the poor parents of their captive and released him in return for Rs130,000 and the promise that the incident would not be reported to the police.
The Satrah police have registered a case against the accused.
DACOITIES: Unidentified dacoits struck at six different places in the district late Monday night, according to the FIRs registered in the police stations concerned.
Nasir Faisal told the Ugoki police that three armed men had deprived him of Rs45,000 in cash and Rs150,000 in the form of gold ornaments at his shop on Defence Road.
At Maraakiwal in Kotli Loharan, armed bandits stormed into the house of local trader Zafar Iqbal and fled away after collecting gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Rs150,000.
In Warsaalkey on Daska-Sambrial Road, three men snatched a taxi car (LOV-6795) from Wazirabad-based taxi-driver Iftikhar Ahmad at gunpoint.
At Sokan Wind in Pasrur Tehsil, six men stormed into the house of landlord Ilyas and fled away after looting gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Rs250,000.
In Bhalowali, three men deprived one Mian Mohammad Ashraf of his motorbike at gunpoint.
In Daska city, unknown thieves took away the motorcycle of Tariq Aslam.
DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge of Sialkot awarded death sentence with Rs100,000 fine to Ilyas for killing a youth, Jamshid, in Dhoda village, Qila Kalanwala (Pasrur tehsil).
Judge Nazir Ahmad Langah acquitted another accused Abbas, giving him the benefit of doubt.
In another case, Daska’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Jamshaid Hussain awarded death sentence with Rs100,000 fine to Tanzeem alias Mithu for killing landlord Muhammad Aslam over a minor dispute in Begowala village (Daska) about two years ago.
The judge acquitted Muhammad Arshad and Imdad Hussain, giving them the benefit of doubt.
TRANSFORMER STOLEN: Around a dozen villages in Pasrur Tehsil have been without electricity since Saturday night when thieves took away the transformer from Sokanwind village, Qila Kalanwala.
Police registered a case.
No step has been taken by the Pasrur-based Wapda authorities to restore power supply to these areas till late on Tuesday night.
Residents of these villages have appealed the Wapda chairman to order the authorities concerned to immediately restore electricity supply.
